Carmarthenshire's £40m Pentre Awel Project Kicks Off with Bouygues UK
Council leaders in Carmarthenshire welcomed David TC Davies MP to the Pentre Awel development site in Llanelli. The £40million project, funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, aims to bring together life science innovation, community healthcare, and modern leisure facilities on an 83-acre site. It is expected to create over 1,800 jobs and boost the local economy by £467million over the next 15 years.
Pentre Awel is part of wider council plans for the regeneration of Llanelli, linked to the Transforming Tyisha project. The project includes a new state-of-the-art leisure centre, hydrotherapy pool, clinical research centre, and well-being skills centre. Later phases of the scheme include a hotel, social and affordable housing, assisted living accommodation, and a nursing home. Bouygues UK has been appointed to design and build Zone One, focusing on creating employment and training opportunities for local people. Building work on this zone will start this autumn with an estimated completion date of summer 2024.
The Pentre Awel project, led by Carmarthenshire County Council, is set to transform Llanelli. With its focus on healthcare, leisure, and economic growth, it promises significant benefits for the local community. The appointment of Bouygues UK for the first phase signals progress towards this ambitious goal.
