Rebekah Wilson's Re-Entry into Tramping with the Help of Plan My Walk

Rebekah Wilson, a communications advisor, recently embarked on a tramping journey that served as a re-release into the outdoors after a decade away. The destination for her adventure was Jans Hut, located in the Remutaka Forest Park, and the route led through the Orongorongo Valley.

For the first time, Rebekah turned to the app, Plan My Walk, to aid in her preparations. She found the app particularly useful for customizing a gear list for her journey, ticking off items as she packed them. The tick-able gearlist proved to be a valuable tool, ensuring she didn't forget any essentials.

Rebekah also used Plan My Walk to book the hut, plan the trip, check weather and track conditions, and even allocate group items. She added items such as an inhaler and antihistamines to the gearlist, ensuring her health and safety were a priority.

The tramp to Jans Hut was an easy overnight journey for Rebekah and her colleagues. They made sure they didn't put pressure on themselves to go on the tramp, choosing to go with people who were at a similar level in experience and fitness. The group, consisting of Rebekah, Ros, Marli, and Tom, started their journey after checking the river level due to the flood risk the Orongorongo River is notorious for.

The entrance to the Orongorongo Track was encountered during their journey, leading them towards their destination. Rebekah's new tramping boots, purchased after a decade of not using her old ones, proved to be a wise investment, providing her with the support she needed for the journey.

The multi-day journey reignited Rebekah's passion for the outdoors. She recommends planning a tramp early to avoid disappointment if things book out. Whether you're a seasoned tramping enthusiast or just starting out, Rebekah's journey serves as a reminder of the joy and adventure that can be found in New Zealand's great outdoors.
