Animal Rescuer Tracey Chronicles Her Transformative Path from Midwife to Cheshunt's Wildlife Guardian

In a welcome change against a backdrop of heavier news, Tracey's tale serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative powers of love, dedication, and compassion. Previously a midwife in London's bustling heart, Tracey has altered the course of her life to focus on animal rescue, viewing her new path as an unexpected yet deeply rewarding calling.

A New Path Emerges

Reflecting on her past life as a midwife, Tracey recalls the start of her journey when she began volunteering for London Wildlife Protection in her spare time. A inspiring mentor introduced her to wildlife rehabilitation, and she discovered that many of her medical skills could be applied to the care of animals. That pivotal moment, when a wounded magpie was returned to health and freedom, marked the beginning of a new chapter in Tracey's life.

Fueled by her passion for animals and her growing confidence in her newfound skills, Tracey made the courageous decision to leave the healthcare field and dedicate herself to the welfare of vulnerable creatures wholeheartedly. Her children were an integral part of this changed life, often aiding in rescue efforts around the city, even schooling hours couldn't deter their compassion.

Building a Community Resource

Two years into her work with London Wildlife Protection, Tracey realized the need for a local wildlife resource for her community. With her mentor Rachel, she established Cheshunt Animal Rescue, starting as a small group committed to rehabilitating wildlife. However, the venture quickly grew in scope.

Aiding Domestic Animals

As Cheshunt Animal Rescue expanded, Tracey found herself in the care of domestic birds, particularly parrots and parakeets. An unexpected request to take in a dachshund named Bridget marked a turning point for Tracey, leading her into the world of canine rehabilitation. Bridget's recovery after a lengthy treatment for cancer served as the starting point for Tracey's work with dogs.

"Dogs kept coming," Tracey recounts, having fostered for over a year. This experience opened her eyes to the harsh realities of animal cruelty and neglect, and soon, people were approaching Cheshunt Animal Rescue to help rehome their dogs, eventually rehoming hundreds.

Throughout her journey, one creature stands out as remarkable as they both came together and went apart. "We have a permanent resident here-Susie, a little deaf and blind poodle puppy," Tracey relates. Given away at just five weeks old, Susie was critically ill and required hospitalization. Generous donations from the public enabled Tracey to provide Susie with the necessary care, her fight for survival a testament to the sheer power of compassion.

A Testament to Collaboration

Tracey credits her success to the valuable support of her diligent team, stating, "I'm ever grateful for our volunteers." A network of transport volunteers ensure that animals are delivered to Tracey or Rachel when they are unable to attend rescue situations, while a small group of loving dog fosterers provide temporary homes for animals until they are ready for adoption.

Cheshunt Animal Rescue Team

With a grateful heart, Tracey speaks of the family's work, acknowledging that they "are just a family, doing this from our home … We do it all voluntarily. It's not easy, but the support from the community is what keeps us going."

Tracey's story is one of perseverance, kindness, and a commitment to serve-a testament to the immense difference one person can makes in their community. Her transformation from midwife to wildlife warrior serves as an inspiration, prompting us to reflect on our own capacity for positive change.
