Active Seasonal Events
In the heart of Viersen, Germany, the Kinderhaus Viersen, a facility dedicated to providing care for severely multiply disabled and permanently ventilated children, was the centre of attention during the summer holidays. The Summer Library Camp (SLC) brought together over 100 individuals, from grandparents to grandchildren, for a series of engaging activities and events.
The week-long camp, organised by Uta Krüger, was filled with numerous highlights. One such event was the creation of "Motivational Dice," guided by Steffi Verfürth and Inge Schäben-Buscher during the third club meeting. These dice, lovingly crafted, were later handed over to Nadine van der Aar from Kinderhaus Viersen. Van der Aar expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful gift and shared a brief insight into life at Kinderhaus Viersen during the SLC closing party.
The competition for a "Hero's Diploma" during the closing party added an element of excitement. Participants who had collected at least three stamps and submitted their logbooks on time received an official SLC certificate and a small gift. A total of 38 logbooks were submitted, documenting various activities, and 253 audiobooks were listened to during SLC.
Uta Krüger, reflecting on the success of SLC, stated, "It will be hard to beat the success of SLC, but we will try to do so in future events." She expressed her satisfaction with the camp and shared plans for more events in the future.
The VHS MediaLab offered a unique opportunity to pose for a photo in front of a green screen, allowing participants to take a heroic stance in their photos. The city library team looked back on SLC with satisfaction, having successfully organised a camp that brought together the community and provided a memorable experience for all.
During the closing party, medals and small gifts were awarded for the best logbooks. Nadine van der Aar, associated with Kinderhaus Viersen, thanked everyone for their participation and support. The Kinderhaus Viersen, part of the Alexianer ViaNobis Jugendhilfe, a youth welfare organization in Viersen, Germany, continues to provide care and support for children and youth within its network.
Overall, SLC was a resounding success, bringing together the community and providing a week of fun, learning, and camaraderie. The organisers look forward to future events that will continue to foster a love for learning and community spirit.
