Hey there, garden enthusiasts! You're gonna love this DIY pest control solution – garlic spray. Yep, you heard that right. Some critters can't stand the stinky stuff, making it a great organic alternative to harsh chemical pesticides.
What's Needed?
Making garlic spray for your plants is a piece of cake. Here are the ingredients you'll need:- 4-5 garlic cloves- Natural, biodegradable dishwashing soap (preferably)- Garlic press, knife, food processor, or mortar & pestle- Bowl or larger container with a spout- Jar with a lid or cheesecloth/coffee filter- Spray bottle
How to Make It
- Crush the garlic cloves using your tool of choice - garlic press, food processor, or good ol' mortar & pestle. If you don't have these, simply mince the garlic finely and smash it into a paste with a knife.
- Mix the crushed garlic in a bowl or container with 4 cups (0.94 L) of water and 4-5 drops of liquid dishwashing soap.
- Use cheesecloth or a coffee filter to strain the garlic concentrate into a jar. If you don't have either, a fine-mesh sieve will do the job too.
- Combine the garlic concentrate with water in a 1:10 ratio (e.g., 1/4 cup concentrate with 2 1/2 cups of water). Mix well and pour into a spray bottle.
Tips and Tricks
- Remember, garlic spray won't stay potent forever, so use it as soon as possible after making it.
- Spray plants once a week to keep pests at bay, or twice a week if it's rainy.
- To apply safely, dilute the mixture before using.
- For intercropping, try planting garlic around roses to repel aphids or tomatoes to prevent red spider mites. Just avoid planting garlic near legumes, peas, and potatoes as they don't get along.
