"A new bicycle maintenance workshop is now available in Schönwalde II, offering assistance for anyone looking to enhance their cycling experience."
In the heart of Greifswald, two new bicycle self-help workshops have been established to empower cyclists and promote independent bike repair. The workshops, located at SchwalBe in the Schönwalde II district and the Klex youth center, are funded by municipal funds and supported by local citizens.
The workshop in Schönwalde II district, opened last year following a citizen vote during the 'Day of Decision', was funded with 12,000 euros. This workshop, like its counterpart in the Klex youth center, follows the 'help for self-help' principle, aiming to equip cyclists with the necessary skills to maintain their bikes.
Located at Maxim-Gorki-Straße, the new bicycle self-help workshop at SchwalBe within the district and community center SchwalBe, offers a freely accessible repair station for cyclists who may have flat tires or no light on their bikes. An honorary worker from the Kinderschutzbund provides assistance at the workshop.
The repair station at the workshop in Schönwalde II district is available for cyclists at any time, even outside of opening hours. The workshop itself is open every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
Meanwhile, the workshop in the Klex youth center, operated by the ADFC, is open on Wednesdays from 4:00 PM. Both workshops aim to help cyclists repair their bikes independently, fostering a sense of community and self-reliance.
Greifswald's bicycle self-help workshops are more than just repair stations. They are spaces where cyclists can come together, learn, and share their knowledge. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, these workshops offer a welcoming environment to help you keep your bike in top shape.
