2025's Clean-Up & Recycle Week: Impact Your Surroundings at Work, Home, and Leisure
Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week is returning for its annual edition in September 2025, with a focus on fostering a culture of accountability and respect for the environment. This nationwide campaign encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to participate in clean-up activities that help reduce waste polluting streets, neighbourhoods, inland waters, and beaches.
Key Dates and Highlights
The week-long event will take place from the 11th to the 16th of September 2025, with several key dates and highlights:
- National River Clean-up Day will be held on the 13th of September, focusing on the conservation of our waterways.
- National Recycling Day South Africa falls on the 15th of September, emphasising the social, environmental, and economic benefits of recycling.
- International Coastal Clean-Up Day and World Clean-Up Day will be celebrated on the 16th of September, focusing on the protection of our coastlines and oceans.
Participation and Registration
Individuals, schools, businesses, and communities are invited to organise their own clean-up events and register them online at www.cleanupandrecycle.co.za. Participants are encouraged to collect and separate waste for recycling, supporting the recycling industry.
Logistical Support and App
Logistical support is available for those organising clean-ups, and Plastics SA will distribute thousands of yellow branded bags for litter collection during the clean-ups. The campaign also promotes the use of the Ocean Conservancy mobile app, Clean Swell, to record and gather data on the types of litter collected, which aids in combating marine pollution.
Social Media and Collaboration
Participants are encouraged to share their clean-up successes on social media to inspire others. The event showcases collaboration between industries and citizens as key to tackling pollution. Various material streams, including paper, glass, and metals, will also be involved in the initiative.
A Sustainable Future
Each bag of litter collected and each bottle or bag recycled contributes to a cleaner and more sustainable South Africa. By participating in Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week 2025, you are helping to create a future where our environment is respected and protected.
So, mark your calendars and join the Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week 2025 movement. Let's work together to make a difference and create a cleaner, greener South Africa. For more information, visit www.cleanupandrecycle.co.za or www.plasticsinfo.co.za.
